Tropical Hoteles has appointed Brendan Breen as its new Business Development Director, a position that will see him leading the renovation of the iconic Gran Hotel Taoro in Puerto de la Cruz, scheduled to reopen in the last quarter of 2024.
Breen has been fundamental in the positioning of Abama Resort Tenerife as the top residential, hotel, and sport destination on the island of Tenerife. He became Director of Abama Golf in 2016, and has since taken on various additional positions of responsibility, including Director of Abama Tennis and Director of Sales & Marketing for hotel operator My Way Hotels & Resorts.
My Way Hotels & Resorts operates Abama Hotels, an accommodation complex consisting of the 5-star establishments Las Terrazas de Abama Suites and Los Jardines de Abama Suites. Its medium-term projects include the construction of a third luxury hotel in Abama Resort Tenerife and the operation of the Gran Hotel Taoro in the north of the island.
Under Breen's leadership, Abama Golf has distinguished itself internationally as the first Spanish golf course to receive an IAGTO quality certification from the World Golf Tour Operators Organization, and the first course in Tenerife to obtain the EMAS certificate from the European Union. It is among the best rated courses by golfers and has been a pioneer in the use of sustainable golf practices, employing techniques and systems that are far ahead of those demanded by European regulations. It currently holds an ISO:14001 environmental certificate and a certification as Biosphere Committed from the Responsible Tourism Institute.
As Director of Abama Tennis, Breen coordinated the remodeling of the facilities to bring them up to fully professional standards. Today, Abama is regularly invited to host ATP and WTF tournaments and has received visits from current and former pro players such as Carlos Alcaraz and Henri Leconte. This world-class center offers 7 courts equipped with Flexi®-Pave surfaces, as well as 4 paddle courts.
Besides his work at Abama, Breen has held positions of responsibility in the Canary Islands for Las Adelfas (1996-2005), Hotel Jardín Tecina and Tecina Golf (2005-2007), and Hotel Las Madrigueras and Golf Las Américas (2007-2016), among others. Abama Resort Tenerife wishes him all the best in his new endeavors.
