People of all ages, from everywhere on the continent (and particularly the Nordic countries), have discovered that the largest of the Canary Islands is the ideal place for a weekend golf getaway. With golf greats like Donald Steel, Severiano Ballesteros, and Dave Thomas behind the design of several of the Tenerife courses, it's no wonder they meet the expectations of professionals and amateurs alike. While the average temperature of 23ºC may be the primary incentive to pack your bags for the island, there's even more that awaits you. The island's hotels rival major golf tourism destinations like the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Hawaii, and Tenerife has hosted prestigious tournaments like local and national Opens, the Fred Olsen Challenge of Spain and the Alps Tour. Security, convenient air connections to most major European airports, and the warm local hospitality round out the checklist for a visit to this Atlantic Ocean paradise. If you're convinced and ready to plan your next golf breaks in Spain, all you need to know now are the best places to play golf in Tenerife. ## Abama Golf The annual international rankings consistently name Abama Golf the top golf in Tenerife. Widely regarded by experts as a "work of art," Dave Thomas's design immerses players in the course's 18 holes, featuring 22 lakes and over 20,000 palm trees. The standout signature hole is the 10th, with its downhill fairway leading to the sea demanding precise shots off the tee. The breathtaking views, visible from every vantage point, are like nothing you've ever seen. And Abama Resort offers a range of accommodation options, from holiday apartments to private villas, with great discounts on golf and special packages, making it the ideal choice for quality time with friends, family, or your partner, with the perk of five-star hotel services during your golf holiday. ## Golf Costa Adeje Designed by renowned Spanish golf player and designer Pepe Gancedo, the Costa Adeje course is celebrated for preserving the natural contours of its old banana terraces and the traditional stone walls that line its perimeter. With 27 holes, this Tenerife golf course presents players with various challenges, including obstacles like ravines and bunkers. However, it's the 4th hole that steals the show, leading golfers straight to the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean. This particular green is notably demanding, adding an exhilarating challenge to your round. ## Amarilla Golf This course is considered one of the island's most difficult, primarily due to its narrow layout and its location in an area where the wind predominantly blows from the east. These conditions will put any golfer's skills to the test, but it's precisely these challenges that make it an enjoyable experience. Designed by Donald Steel, the course features 18 holes, with the 5th hole standing out as the most challenging, and measuring only 100 meters in length. ## Buenavista Golf Nestled in the Teno Rural Park you'll find Buenavista Golf, a course designed by legendary Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros. Offering a visually striking experience, players often feel as though they're hitting the ball right over the sea. But the par 3s, particularly the 15th and 17th holes, demand an extraordinary level of precision, too, perched as they are on the cliff's edge. Buenavista features 18 holes within a relatively compact course, making it an excellent choice for golfers who relish the challenge of small greens and precision shots. ## Golf del Sur Golf del Sur is a Tenerife classic, having hosted significant professional golf tournaments. The original design by Pepe Gancedo, followed by remodeling efforts led by Manuel Piñero, has created a course that's a true tribute to nature. Protected native species and distinctive ravines feature throughout the course, and golfers often single out hole 3 on the northern course for its remarkable length and narrow fairways, demanding nearly flawless shots to avoid the adjacent ravine. Demanding, enjoyable, challenging, and exceptionally picturesque – these are just a few of the great prospects available when it comes to playing golf in Tenerife. Counting among them one of the [best golf resorts](https://blog.abamahotelresort.com/visit-the-best-golf-resorts-abama-tenerife?hsLang=en) in Spain, these destinations promise pure enjoyment throughout the year, and hundreds of ways to put your golfing skills to the test.
