Pequeño Valiente Charity Dinner

This year, Abama’s annual charity dinner was honored to help support an incredible local organization, Pequeño Valiente. Inspired by its founder José Juan Jerez’s personal experience, Pequeño Valiente embraces families in one of the most difficult moments of their lives: a childhood cancer diagnosis. In the aftermath of news that stops time, splits households, and disrupts every day-to-day routine a family has, Pequeño Valiente’s multidisciplinary team steps in and provides long-term help in the form of social services, psychological support, physical therapy, tutoring, activities, sport, and more. They are a permanent hand to hold during the worst times, allowing families to focus on the care of their child while the organization takes care of the rest.

For Canary Islands residents, for whom specialized pediatric cancer treatment is only available in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, or in mainland Spain, Pequeño Valiente also provides housing for families while children are undergoing treatment. These temporary residences allow families to stay together and remain close to their children, without having to find the money to support two homes. They help provide food, medical care, and other services, knowing full well that when a child is gravely ill, every member of the family suffers. Casa Pipa, the organization’s facility in Gran Canaria, has been in operation for several years, and they have recently been gifted a building in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the purpose of establishing another such facility in Tenerife.

The objective of the Abama Solidaria drive was specifically to contribute to the construction of “Casa Hogar”, this new temporary residence in Santa Cruz, which requires a full renovation, and we were humbled once again by the incredible generosity of our owners, collaborators, and sponsors, who astound us every year with their empathy and commitment to helping those in need.

From companies that bought full tables to sponsors who provided prizes for the raffle and auction to the restaurant that offered a free venue and an exquisite dinner to (especially) the dinner guests that bought tickets, raffle entries, bid on items, and donated funds, everyone involved gave the best of themselves.

With their help, together we were able to raise over €10,000 for Pequeño Valiente in addition to the €3,000 contributed directly by Abama Solidaria. We are profoundly grateful to everyone for their generous personal and corporate donations, and we would particularly like to extend our thanks to Taittinger & Perelada and Mahou and Fonteide for their generous sponsorship, and to all the wonderful businesses that contributed prizes for the raffle: Abama Hotels, Abama Luxury Residences, Abama Golf, Victor Dubuisson, Daniel López, Spring Hotels, Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora, Hotel Tivoli La Caleta, Hyatt Hotels, Finca Vegas, Bettenhaus, and El Corte Inglés.
