Tágara's Canarian cuisine shines for our Tenerife luxury properties

As the leisure and gastronomic offer of our Tenerife luxury properties grows, we're seeing Abama become a true culinary feast. And on an island whose dining scene is gaining ever more renown as well, Tágara restaurant is holding its own thanks to a menu that combines the simple local ingredients of Canary Islands tradition with a sophisticated contemporary vision. With chef Álvaro Carrillo Conesa at the helm, our star restaurant in Plaza Abama will soon be positioned among the elite venues on the island.

With starters like his Lanzarote sweet potato salad with El Hierro tuna and the Canary Islands tomato salad with Majorera goat cheese, palm honey vinaigrette and toasted peanuts, Tágara's philosophy focuses on highlighting the richness of local ingredients, with a special focus on the fresh Atlantic fish you can often see Carrillo posing with on his social channels. “It's very important to me that people think of Tágara as a quality restaurant that works with local products...above all, with fresh fish. We want to be identified with the Canary Islands gastronomic tradition and native flavors, but with a modern viewpoint,” says Carrillo. This desire is behind some of his most inspired creations, including his fish and gofio stew and his local fish preparation with mini vegetables from Guía de Isora. Or try the succulent “Carne fiesta de secreto de cochino negro y papas paja” or the fried kid goat with pepper chutney and yam purée.

Originally from Cartagena, Murcia, and with solid training in the prestigious kitchens of Martín Berasategui in Mallorca, Carrillo has taken up his position at Tágara with a clear mission and a passion for the island that's welcomed him: “I had already lived in Tenerife and knew I loved the climate, the food, and the people, so the proposal to head up a Canary Islands restaurant was really enticing. It was an interesting challenge both from a gastronomic and a cultural point of view.”

Carrillo's task is no small one since, as many of the residents of our luxury properties in Tenerife are aware, Abama is known for its exceptional dining as well as for its world-class facilities and residential and holiday homes. Tágara has joined the exclusive group of restaurants elevating the culinary experience within the resort, including Martín Berasategui's M.B, with two Michelin stars, and Akira Back Tenerife. With its focus on authenticity, Tágara invites you into Canary Islands traditions and the sophisticated simplicity of Abama.
