Golf is an incredible sport, and even more so when you can play in paradise, as we’ve just seen in the second edition of the Tenerife Golf Cup at Abama Resort. Organized by Turismo Tenerife and Deporte and Business, the event took place on April 28th, 29th and 30th. Tenerife’s positioning as an essential destination for golf lovers was again in evidence as the participants shared some of their best moments on Dave Thomas’s lush course and in Abama Hotels’ exclusive Las Terrazas de Abama Suites, where they stayed. The radiant weather, the Atlantic Ocean breeze, and Abama’s professional facilities were a reminder of the resort’s well rounded offer of sport, elegant lifestyle, and incomparable natural coastal surroundings.
The Tenerife Golf Cup 2025 was held over three days on two courses: Golf Los Palos, where the players were welcomed, and our beloved Abama Golf, where the tournament was held. The Dave Thomas course, with its breathtaking views of the ocean and the island of La Gomera, gave participants a taste of what makes Abama so special. The event brought together national and international players from the business, social and sports worlds, who enjoyed the lively competition and the leisure activities scheduled for each day.
The competition was held in a format inspired by the Ryder Cup, pitting a Canary Islands team captained by Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela against a mainland team captained by Ignacio Garrido. The first day, played in fourball mode at Golf Los Palos, ended with an organic dinner at Finca La Calabacera. Hosted by Brendan Breen, Director of Business Development of Tropical Hotels, the second and third days took place at Abama Golf. In the decisive match on Wednesday, the local team emerged the winner.
Abama Golf delighted players with the natural beauty of its surroundings, its unique design and the quality of the attention offered to the teams. The players especially highlighted the excellent condition of the course, the work of our beloved Mario Arzola, and the spectacular holes with views of the ocean and the island of La Gomera.
After the second day of the tournament, attendees enjoyed dinner at Martín Berasategui’s exclusive Melvin restaurant at Abama Resort, followed by live music from singer Carolina Salmerón and a performance by comedians Sinacio and Dani de la Cámara. On the last day, tee times were arranged from 9h to allow time for lunch and the awards ceremony in our new Clubhouse restaurant.
The attendees left Abama Resort with the sweet taste of these experiences on their minds, having enjoyed the tournament part of the Tenerife Golf Cup 2025 as much as the opportunity to gather with other professionals and golf lovers. Presentations, social activities and relaxing moments made for a full program designed down to the last detail.
Abama Resort could not be more grateful to Turismo Tenerife and Deporte and Business, our allies this year in organizing not only the Tenerife Golf Cup 2025, but also the LET’s Tenerife Women's Open. Thanks for letting us join the adventure!
