Just a short trip from your property at Abama, the Tenerife Auditorium plays host in February to Europe’s top symphony orchestras, who will be participating in the Canary Islands International Music Festival (FIMC). The event, in its 41st edition this year, is on until February 16th, and offers a journey through more than one hundred pieces from the 18th Century to the present day. Alongside soloists and conductors of renown, more than a thousand additional musicians from all over the world will grace 21 stages throughout the eight islands of the archipelago.
The violin is the star instrument in this edition, featuring performaces by Pinchas Zukerman, Hilary Hahn, Midori, Leonidas Kavakos, María Dueñas, Lisa Batiashvilli, and others. All the information and tickets are available on the official event website.
Planning a trip to Abama during this time? Here are some of the outstanding concerts:
February 1st - The Salzburg Camerata
The Salzburg Camerata will perform Beethoven's Violin Concerto, T. Zedginidza's Symphony No. 1 and Mozart's Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”. The star of the evening will be Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili, renowned for her elegance and intensity.
February 7th - The Vienna Boys Choir
If you have not yet seen the Vienna Boys Choir live, this is your chance. The most famous children's choir in the world brings a “Tribute to Johann Strauss and his contemporaries on their 200th anniversary” to Tenerife under the direction of Austrian Oliver Stech. It’s sure to be a thrilling show of voices!
February 8th - The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra
Don't miss Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Its conductor, Lahav Shani, won the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2013 and from then on, his career has taken him to great orchestras including Vienna and Berlin.
February 14th - Grigory Sokolov
Russian pianist and naturalized Spanish citizen Grigory Sokolov is widely recognized for his technical mastery. For many, he is the best in the world. With a career spanning more than 50 years, he has played with the most acclaimed international orchestras, but in recent years he has dedicated himself to solo recitals.
February 15th - Orchestre de la Suisse Romande
“Clair de Lune” (from the Suite Bergamasque) by Debussy, Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and the Violin Concerto by Sibelius are all in the repertoire that the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande brings to Tenerife with the Japanese violinist Midori. It’s a unique opportunity to witness, first-hand, the talent of one of today’s most charismatic musicians.
