The wait is over, and after five months of intense work, Abama Golf has reopened with brand-new greens. Bookings are available from the 24th of September. Already considered one of the best golf courses in Europe, Abama Golf will now offer an increased speed of play and even more sustainable upkeep.
The new grass type chosen for our greens is Bermuda TifEagle, a species created by geneticist Wayne Hanna that requires less water and is highly resistant to pests and diseases, thus reducing the use of phytosanitary products as well. In addition, Bermuda TifEagle allows for championship speeds of up to 11.5 and commercial speeds of up to 9, cementing Abama Golf's status as a premium putting course.
Brendan Breen, the Director of Business Development for Tropical Hotels Group, explained that in selecting this new grass, Abama Golf assessed a range of variables that influence course maintenance, such as climate, soil, topography, vegetation and available resources.
“The whole team is very happy with the results and believes golfers at Abama will appreciate and enjoy the change,” Breen said at the reopening of the course.
During the summer months of the greens' installation, Abama Golf also took the opportunity to renovate some of the Clubhouse facilities. Work is still in progress on the new Clubhouse restaurant, which opens in the autumn.
Abama Golf Tenerife comprises 18 holes, with 96 white-sand bunkers, a practice area and a layout that boasts incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera.
