If you love Abama, you'll know that a good Tenerife beach isn't hard to find. Famed for its diverse offer, this island provides something for everyone. We have compiled a list of our favourites, and whether it be walking, sunbathing, swimming, or spectacular sunsets that suit your fancy, you’ll find it all just a short distance from your residence. Read on to find out which beaches are not to be missed.
Playa del Duque
Does the thought of crystal-clear water lapping against golden sand and ringed by a great promenade have you daydreaming? Does a banda azul-accredited beach renowned for its cleanliness appeal? Boasting a full range of amenities such as toilets, sun lounger rental and lifeguards, there’s nothing not to like about Playa del Duque (the selection of nice boutique shops and eateries doesn’t hurt, either). If you’re chomping at the bit to get there, follow the TF-47 until TF-1 and in 20 minutes you’ll be at your destination. There is plenty of parking nearby.
This is a lovely Tenerife beach at which to spend the day and ideal for those Abama Resort residents seeking a place to relax, swim or sunbathe. For those with itchier feet, there are also many activities on offer, including jet skiing, banana boating, parasailing and fly-fishing. All equipment can be hired from a kiosk conveniently located right on the beach.
For those with smaller ones accompanying them for a day of swimming and sun, a line of rocks about 60 metres offshore provide shelter and ensure a calm lagoon for swimming for adults and children alike.
Playa de la Pinta
Following the TF-1 just a little further down the coast will bring you to this little gem of a beach. Calm and clear water coupled with fine sand make for safe swimming and perfect sandcastle building for budding architects. This sheltered beach, situated next to the marina at Puerto Colon, is ideal for families with young children as the beach is enclosed by rocks that break the waves. In addition, there are lots of cafés, bars and restaurants behind the beach that will perfectly complement your day out. Although swimming alone provides more than enough entertainment for children, the Playa de la Pinta also offers numerous other activities, including, for those 14 and over, a water obstacle course, blow-up castles and, of course, snorkelling for those curious members of the family that want to glimpse sea life under the crystalline waters.
The beach is surrounded by a promenade and features a selection of restaurants for those wishing to combine the beach with a delicious lunch or dinner. There are also a number of stores for a bit of shopping between sunbathing and swimming. The marina is just around the corner and here you can hire boats, jet skis, and fishing equipment, or even take a whale- or dolphin-seeing trip. Sunset cruises are also available should you want to extend your day out into the early evening.
Playa de los Guíos
In the opposite direction from the previous two spectacular beaches, but still only a 20-minute drive from our Abama Luxury Residences, is a dramatic Tenerife beach surrounded by majestic cliffs. The Playa de los Guíos should be one that makes it onto your must-see list for its stunning landscape alone.
Formed, in part, by the cliffs of Los Gigantes, which rise up to 500 metres, the beach has fine black sand. During the warmer months, due to its colour, the sand can get very hot, so you’re advised to bring sandals!
One of the 13 banda azul-certified beaches on Tenerife, you can expect the usual excellence: cleanliness, showers, toilets, chair and umbrella hire, and most importantly, lifeguards on duty. The waters here can be choppy and while fun for littler ones to splash in, this beach is often more about the scenery than the swimming.
There are many other activities to choose from if swimming doesn’t appeal. While there are no eating facilities on the beach itself, at the nearby marina there are countless restaurants boasting gastronomic delights and bars aplenty should the order of the day just be a glass of cold white wine and a bit of relaxation after a day at the beach. The marina also offers jet skis and boat and kayak rental to reach the nearby cliffs.
