Benijo Beach
We begin our tour of secret Tenerife spots with Benijo beach, located in one of the most impressive parks in Tenerife: Anaga Rural Park in the northeast of the island. To access it, you have to drive to the Mirador de Benijo and then walk down a path with steps. We recommend that you calculate your arrival time so you don't miss the sunset, one of the most spectacular on the island. It's a true visual spectacle, in which the red of the horizon forms a backdrop for the gray silhouettes of volcanic rock that emerges from the ocean. It's not suitable for swimming because of the strong current, but you can sunbathe in total calm.
The Masca Gorge
If you love hiking and don't suffer from vertigo, the Masca Gorge route is for you! Almost 10 kilometers long, the trail very well marked and will give you the amazing experience of walking through a canyon - with walls up to 400 meters high - that traverses a natural path to the sea. It begins in Masca, a small hamlet in the rural park of Teno located in the northwest of Tenerife. The first thing to do is to book your ticket online, as there are a limited number of tickets offered each day. At the visitor's center they will validate your booking and give you a helmet you must wear. Doing the full route usually takes between 5 and 6 hours; remember that once you descend to the beach you must walk back up because the pier is closed and you cannot leave by sea.
El Bollullo Beach
Many consider this secret Tenerife beach the best in the valley of La Orotava. It has more than 200 meters of fine black sand and a small cove. It's one of the perfect places to visit in Tenerife if you want to recharge your batteries at the ocean. If you're looking for more privacy, we recommend Los Patos beach, located right next to El Bollullo, though to get there you have to ascend a steep path and the beach has no lifeguards. It'll be just you and the Atlantic Ocean, so we recommend swimming with the utmost caution.
Diego Hernández Beach
Few beaches in Tenerife can boast of having golden sand, and Diego Hernandez is one of them. Just a 20-minute drive from Abama Resort Tenerife, head to Tajore Street in Adeje and, from there, follow the path to the sea. The walking route is not difficult, but it's a good idea to wear sport shoes. The area has been declared a Site of Scientific Interest due to the presence of halophilic vegetation (plants adapted to marine soils) that attracts all kinds of migratory species. This detail, together with the tranquil nature of this virgin beach, make Diego Hernández a fascinating destination.
The Aguaide Lookout Point
If you are wondering what to visit in Tenerife and you want an impressive photo, this is the place for you. To reach the Aguaide lookout point, travel to the Anaga Rural Park and from there to the hamlet of Chinamada, one of the oldest settlements in the Canary Islands. The path leading to the scenic point is easy to walk and takes about 15 minutes. We suggest you go on a clear day so you can experience the site's majesty to the fullest. Located on the edge of a cliff, more than 500 meters above sea level, this lookout offers extraordinary panoramic views next to the imposing Roque de los Dos Hermanos, with the Punta del Hidalgo lighthouse on the horizon.
Tenerife destinations are an unending source of adventure, and every time you visit Abama Resort you'll discover new places to visit. With so many secret Tenerife spots on the map, you'll have to return again and again to explore them all.
