Smash! The Tenerife ATP Challengers draw to a close at Abama Tennis

It was our tremendous pleasure to host three Tenerife ATP Challengers over the past weeks at Abama Tennis. These tournaments, whose players are vying for a spot on the ATP Tour, transmit boundless amounts of buzz and energy to their surroundings as young tennis stars with huge potential catch a glimpse of their dreams coming true.

Organized once again by the unflappable, professional MEF Tennis Events, everything was in perfect order and the focus squarely on the matches. One of the ATP Challenger weekends was attended by none other than Royal Spanish Tennis Federation President Miguel Díaz Román, who was full of praise for MEF’s Director, Marcello Marchesini, and the work he has done to bring ATP Challenger tournaments to Spain, which will host a total of 15 of these tournaments this season.

At Abama Tennis, our enthusiasm for hosting Tenerife ATP Challengers remains unflagging. It’s an opportunity to see the next generation of tennis stars on their rise to the top, and to do so in the beautiful surroundings of our Academy and newly renovated Abama Tennis Club. Thus far this year we welcomed an ATP Challenger 100 from January 15th-22nd, an ATP Challenger 75 from January 29th-February 5th, and another ATP Challenger 75 from February 5th-12th. World Tennis No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who visited our resort at the end of 2022 remembered fondly his time in the ATP Challenger field, and emphasized that the players would particularly enjoy being in the heavenly Canary Islands for these tournaments.

So far in 2023, the Italians have proved some of the biggest threats, with the second ATP Challenger 75 being won by Matteo Gigante after a final battle against his countryman and practice partner Stefano Travaglia, while the first ATP Challenger 75 was won by Matteo Arnaldi after facing fellow Italian Raul Brancaccio. The champion of the ATP Challenger 100 in January was Russian Alexander Shevchenko.

Like Díaz Román, Abama is very much looking forward to any future Tenerife ATP Challengers we have the privilege to host, and we plan to give our full support to promoting Tenerife tennis.
