Abama takes on a food drive for families in Guía de Isora

Abama Solidaria’s spring food drive has just closed, and once again we are happy to hope that we have contributed positively to our community in Guía de Isora. Tenerife is an island unique not only for its natural environment but for its cultural and social history, a fascinating blend of various influences over centuries. And the citizens that are the fruit of this history know well that looking out for all members of the community is the best way to grow stronger together.

With this in mind, during the pandemic Abama established Abama Solidaria as an organism through which to channel our social sustainability actions. These have included contributing to the purchase of laptops during the lockdown for children who could not afford them and needed them for their online schooling; the purchase of Christmas presents every year for children in the area; our yearly hygiene product and food drive; sponsorship of Ámate Tenerife, a wonderful organization that supports cancer patients and their families; and the collection of funds to purchase eyeglasses and dental care for families in need. Each year these projects are organized in our agenda as part of the Sustainability Plan developed by the Abama Green Team, and we work internally to spread the word and solicit support from our property owners, as well as contributing directly as the resort.

We’re very proud of the active participation of our owners in this food drive and other actions, and of the sense of community inspired by working together towards positive goals. Sustainability is not just a buzz word, and it no longer refers to purely environmental concerns. Who we are, how we behave, and the respect we extend to others around us directly affects how we choose to use resources and how we protect our environment. The concept of “sustainable homes” at Abama reflects this philosophy, and the explicit inclusion of these actions in our communications reflects our desire to attract owners who not only want to live on Tenerife but truly become a part of the community, growing together.
