Another sustainability milestone has been achieved at Abama Hotels in Guía de Isora, as Las Terrazas de Abama Suites has been awarded both an ISO 9001 certification and an ISO 14001 certification. Issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and certified by one of the leading international quality and testing service providers, TÜV Rheinland, these certifications were part of a long list of ambitious goals established by the Abama Green Team for 2023 in our continuous efforts to excel in areas related to sustainability.
The ISO 9001 certification is a recognition that a business’s quality management system complies with international standards. It is a certification that underpins many other international certifications because it confirms that the audited company has a high-level structure in place for operations that allows it to efficiently and effectively implement other changes and systems. It fosters strong customer orientation and gives employees the confidence of having specific operational procedures and information in place and maintained through good communication.
The ISO 14001 certification recognizes companies whose environmental management system complies with international standards. These standards have greatly expanded to encompass the economic and social aspects of sustainability, not just the environmental. This means that the modern environmental management system concerns itself with energy use, emissions, and waste management, but also with its practices with regard to sourcing, hiring, transport, expenditures, ecological awareness among employees, and error prevention and management.
We’re proud to include these new achievements that build on the back of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certification our Tenerife accommodation already held, as a sign of our ongoing commitment to maintain standards of excellence not only in our services and facilities but in the corporate structures and practices that underpin them.
