For those of you who love fashion, April brings an event that will allow you entrée into this whimsical world without having to traipse back to mainland Europe. From the 11th to the 14th of April, 2019, the Tenerife Fairgrounds in Santa Cruz will host the 9th edition of the International Fashion Fair of Tenerife. More than 100 companies in the sector will be present with stands. You will be able to get a sneak peek at the upcoming season’s collections from an array of local and international designers, buy fashion crafted on the island, and enjoy numerous other activities, presentations, and things to do in Tenerife.
And, of course, the expo hall’s “Black Box” will be active throughout with a series of runway shows designed to delight and surprise. The first major runway will take place the evening of the 11th of April at 21:00, featuring the 6 finalists from this year’s Young Fashion Designers competition (Samuel Salgero, Marc Philinger, Antonio Luque, Jota, Baro Lucas, and Juan Millán) as well as international designer Amato. This competition, now in its 11th edition, whose objective is to promote young designers and give them a platform to publicly launch their careers, continues to attract more and more attention every year, and had a record number of 70 applicants in 2019 from all over the world.
The runway shows continue over the following days, featuring categories such as womenswear, menswear, swimwear, accessories, cocktail attire, and children’s fashion, with some 3-7 shows per day. Many of the participants hail from Tenerife or Macaronesia (encompassing 5 archipelagos in the northern Atlantic including The Azores, The Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira, and The Savage Islands), but there are also numerous interesting participants from countries such as Senegal, Turkey, and Morocco. There will also be an exhibit of the finalists from the VIII Tenerife Moda Photography Competition, which this year took Fashion and Urban Art as its theme. 207 photographs were submitted in total, with first and second prize going to the same photographer, Adrián Cabrera Martín, from Tenerife. The entries will give you a unique perspective on current trends in the fashion world, from points of view as diverse as the cultural offer available to you at Abama Tenerife. So don't miss this slew of things to do in Tenerife, and get a glimpse of modern Tenerife culture while you're at it.
