In October, we held the first edition of our Abama Solidaria Padel Tournament, with all proceeds going to the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Guía de Isora. We are so grateful for the incredible participation of local residents who helped us fill our roster to capacity within just a few days. Ultimately, 48 pairs of players signed up for men’s, women’s and mixed doubles teams at all skill levels.
The players gathered at the Abama Tennis Center beginning on the 13th of October for the first rounds and to receive their tournament goodie bag that included the event t-shirt. The rounds progressed continuously, with matches being held simultaneously on our four professional-grade padel courts. Spectators included players and family members during all the matches, completely filling the padel area with a lively crowd. The firefighters joined us, too, helping to serve water and bananas to the players as thanks for their participation.
Each day of the weekend, after the daily matches, we gathered with the players and spectators in the Tennis Center bar, which affords stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rest of the resort and surrounding area on one side, and a view up the slopes of the Teide on the other.
All in all, it was an incredibly exciting tournament, and delightful to host so many people from the island for this first Abama Solidaria Padel Tournament. In total, we collected €4,000 for the firefighters’ new equipment, and we were happy to congratulate Javier Teja and Rafael Valencia, the first winners of our tournament. We can’t wait to do it all again next year, this time hopefully coinciding with our Owners Cup Weekend so some of our residents can participate as well. Here's to more great sport events at Abama, one of the most spectacular venues to play Tenerife tennis!
