The first evening event of our Abama Luxury Properties Gala Weekend is always our casually elegant Owners’ Dinner, where the term “barbecue” takes on a whole new meaning. Our guests, dressed in chic white with a touch of green, mill around the pool deck during cocktail hour before enjoying a sit-down dinner catered by Melvin restaurant and some of the best chefs on the island.
This year marked a first for our owners’ barbecue dinner: we found ourselves at capacity some two weeks ahead of the event, and we eventually welcomed 160 people to a lovely evening at the outdoor pool area at El Club at Las Terrazas.
Thanks to the Cultural and Tourism Department of the Government of Guía de Isora, this year the highlight of the night was the very special musical trio who were able to join us: Romen Pérez, Carlos Afonso, and Lorena Medina. These three artists first met at the Guía de Isora Municipal School of Folklore as children, and they have made it their lifelong mission to introduce audiences to the native musical traditions and dance of Tenerife. They performed two instrumental pieces featuring the timple, a traditional Canary Islands instrument in the string family, and the guitar, and two pieces including voice. The latter were examples of two of the most popular traditional dance songs on the island.
Our guests also enjoyed contributions from two other participating artists this year. Kima Luna Garcia, of Kiluga Orfebre, created unique island-inspired jewellery pieces for the attendees to take home as gifts. And Carlos Curbelo, a native of Guía de Isora, shared his artistry with us through his floral sculpture displayed in the entrance hall, and the beautifully spare centerpieces on each table.
